Solar Power International 2009 last week announced that Robert F. Kennedy Jr. will deliver a keynote speech on Wednesday, Oct. 28, at 8:00 a.m. PT. The conference also announced the line-up for its annual CEO panel, in which top solar and electric power decision-makers meet onstage to discuss issues of vital importance to the solar industry.

The Needles City Council and the Needles Public Utility Authority (NPUA) have unanimously approved and executed a twenty year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Renewable Energy Development Corporation (REDCO). Pursuant to the PPA, REDCO will develop and operate a 5-megawatt solar thermal power plant in Needles to provide the city with the power and the Renewable Energy Certificates.

My town, Davis, California, adopted an ordinance requiring a 44% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from new homes by 2020. It was a daring move since all our homebuilders told us it couldn’t be done.

Sopogy’s MicroCSP solar collectors will be used in combination with a thermal air conditioning unit to demonstrate the power of a solar air-conditioning demonstration system. The Solar A/C program is being sponsored by Southern California Gas Co. a subsidiary of Sempra Energy.

I’m close to turning 50 years old and I’m having Energy déjà vu. Over the winter, fears of oil shortages put prices through the roof and energy production is being blamed for the climatic changes around the world. Chicken Little keeps telling us the sky is falling, yet forty years have gone by and the sky is still blue. Another thing that hasn’t changed is that we still don’t have an energy plan. How can we not have a strategy in place to quell the fear and stop the pain?
